Bill Lamberson, professor and interim director of the Division of Animal Sciences, has been named the permanent head of the division by Christopher Daubert, Vice Chancellor and Dean of the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR). Lamberson’s appointment is effective Nov. 1, 2017.

Lamberson has been at the University of Missouri since 1984 – he joined as an assistant professor after finishing his Ph.D. at the University of Nebraska.

He has served as interim director of the division since Jan. 1, 2017. The Division of Animal Sciences at the University of Missouri has more than 30 faculty members and about 465 graduate and undergraduate students.

“Dr. Lamberson has a leadership legacy and a deep commitment to animal sciences that will best serve the Division of Animal Sciences and MU as director,” Daubert said. “We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Lamberson to the CAFNR administrative team as we work together to build a distinct college for agriculture, food and natural resources.”

Lamberson is a professor of physiological genetics, and has taught courses ranging from the introduction to the disciplines of animal sciences to graduate courses in statistics, quantitative genetics and mathematical modeling. He is the coordinator of the Animal Sciences Research Center – including animal and laboratory facilities housing more than 200 scientists and staff – and is the Director of Graduate Studies in the division.

He has authored more than 100 publications and taught more than 20,000 student credit hours during his career at Mizzou.

Lamberson has received research honors from the National Pork Producers Council; graduate education and training awards from CAFNR and the MU Graduate Professional Council; and teaching recognition from CAFNR and the American Society of Animal Science.

He served as the chairman of the Breeding and Genetics Committee of the American Society of Animal Science from 1996-97 and has served two terms as associate editor of the Journal of Animal Science.
